100% Bobal from 50-100 year old vines. Aromas of black plums, black cherries and raspberries with mineral notes. Bright, earthy, well-balanced and complex. Medium-bodied with flavors of red & black plums, black cherries. Great acidity on the fresh finish. Great with poultry, pork and light enough for fish dishes.

BOBAL is native to Utiel-Requena DOP, about an hour inland from Valencia on the eastern coast of Spain. It is rugged, hot and dry with very little organic matter in the soils. Despite being one of the harshest growing areas in Spain, Bobal thrives!

100% Carignano from Isola dei Nuraghi IGT. Strawberries, black raspberries on the nose. Fuller-bodied. Flavors of black cherries, raspberries, blackberries. Good acidity. Super fine tannins. Note of caramel on the finish. Phenomenal wine.

CARIGNANO = Carignan (in France) = Cariñena (in Spain). Most commonly found in Languedoc-Roussillon and in vineyards around Barcelona, this version comes from Sardinia. The grape is known for its dark purple flavors and special herbal notes.

 

Palencia 2021 El Viñador Carménère • Red Mountain, Washington • Reg $29.99 | Mixed Case $23.99

Aging in 100% French oak for 24 months gives this wine balance and complexity showcasing the fruit and vineyard quality. Hints of grilled jalapenos, a trademark character of this variety compliments the fruit nature of this wine. Hints of mocha, leather and clove dance on the palate. —winery notes.

CARMENMERE, originally a blending grape from Bordeaux, is now grown as the primary grape in Chile. You also see it pretty regularly as a single-varietal from Washington State.

100% Cinsault. Red berries, cherries. Super inviting. Not heavy. Add in a hint of olives on the palate. Long finish with a note of spice. Fun wine! Great with thin crust pizza, burgers, casseroles, tacos & more.

CINSAULT is a blending grape used along the French Mediterranean. It's heat tolerant and is used to lighten up richer wines (primarily Syrah/Grenache), adding fresh fruitiness and a little spice to the flavors.

100% Cortese. Unripe stone fruits, green apples & wet stones on the nose. Flavors add in crunchy nectarines & apricots, orange zest minerality and herbal notes. A little fuller in body. Lovely minerally finish. Amazing wine.

CORTESE is the locally-grown white grape in the Piedmont region of DOCG Gavi. It’s known for its fresh, pleasant acidity and tasty flavors of stone fruits, apple, melon, minerality & sometimes a note of almond on the finish.

 

Monte Tondo 2022 Corvina • Veneto, Italy • Reg $17.99 | Mixed Case $14.39

100% Corvino. Cranberry, red plums, dried cherries, soft oregano on the nose. Flavors are similar with the red plum kicking in. Black cherries, too. Superb acidity. Medium- to lighter in body. Perfect fall wine, especially if you're dishing up some lasagna for a crowd.

CORVINA is one of the 3 grapes — Corvina, Rondinella & Molinara — in a traditional Valpolicella red blend (including Amarone). It’s known for tart notes of cherry and cranberry with herbal notes. Classic food wine! Risotto, pork loin, roasted vegetables.

100% Dolcetto. Cherries, earth, rocks, floral note on the nose. Fresh cherries, red plums, earthy flavors. Medium- to lighter in body. Perfect for a lighter fish dinner, mushroom pizza & more.

DOLCETTO is native to Piedmont. It is usually pretty light in body with lots of purple and red fruit flavors and a note of earth. It sometimes has a slightly bitter finish which can be pleasantly refreshing. Great food wine.

 

Cantine Volpi 2023 Sospiro Grillo • Sicily, Italy • Reg $18.99 | Mixed Case $15.19

100% Grillo. Organic. From Trapani... west coast, lots of sun, 400 meters above sea level. Beautiful fresh, floral nose with stone fruit. Palate = apples, citrus, nectarine. Fresh with fun salinity on the finish. Delightful.

GRILLO is a Sicilian white grape that’s sort of like a funky, fun Pinot Grigio with a little seashell on the finish from growing near the ocean.

 

Castelfeder 2019 Lagrein "Rieder" • Alto Adige, Italy • Reg $19.99 | Mixed Case $15.99

100% Lagrein. Darker in color with a nose of dark fruits & earth. Palate lightens up. Red berries, pleasantly fruity. Pleasant acidity. Soft tannins. At its prime! Enjoy meeting a new grape. Winery says to pair with gamey, roasted meats and aged cheeses.

LAGREIN, a red grape native to Alto Adige, is known for its medium-bodied yet still mouth-coaty, red & blue fruit flavors. Can sometimes have a note of cranberry.

 

Gordo 2021 Monastrell • Yecla, Spain • Reg $22.99 | Mixed Case $18.39

100% Monastrell = Mourvèdre. Herbal, earthy, dark fruit on the nose. Palate = blackberries, black plums, blueberries, herbs, black tea. Dry finish with a little, vibrant, orange rind acidity on the tail end. Crazy-good food wine. The wine you're getting for the money is insane.

MONASTRELL = Mourvèdre = the M in GSM blends from the Southern Rhône. People associate this grape with Mediterranean France, but it's originally from Spain! This thick-skinned grape is fuller-bodied & dry with flavors of mulberry, and other black & blue fruits.

100% Montonico. Seashells, chalk, soft herbs, apple & pears. Flavors = clay, lime, apples. On the finish, you get a long, earthy, citrusy, limestone finish. Great wine. Who would like this wine? People who want an interesting, minerally, dry white.

MONTONICO is an absolutely obscure grape from Calabria, known under the other equally obscure names: Bottato, Caprone, Ciapparone, Chiapparone, Coppa, Montanaro, Ognone, Racciapollona, Racciapollone, Raccipolluta, Roccipolluta, Roccipoluta, Trebbiano Marchigiano, Trebbiano Montanaro, Uva d'Oro di poggio delle rose, Uva di poggio delle rose, Uva Fermana, Uva Racciapoluta, Uva Roccipolluta and Uva Regno. credit> Ha! Seriously. It’s just one of those crazy Italian grapes you just have to try.

100% Moscato. “So aromatic, so floral. Sweet, fresh and harmonic moscato.” —importer notes.

MOSCATO is a white grape from Piedmont near the village of Asti. It’s softly sweet with a nose of honeysuckle and flavors of citrus (lemon, clementine) — and sometimes stone fruits & melon. Good acidity creates an effervescence that keeps this sparkling wine light & fresh.

PETITE SIRAH is related to Syrah, but it’s its own grape. Full-bodied and dry with inky dark fruit.

 

Lievland 2022 Pinotage • Paarl, South Africa • Reg $21.99 | Mixed Case $17.59

100% Pinotage. A little gamey, smoky on the nose. Flavors of blackberries, black cherries, boysenberries, herbal. Hint of licorice on the finish. Great acidity. Not too dry. Fantastic example of Pinotage!

PINOTAGE — grown only in South Africa — is a cross between Pinot Noir & Cinsault (formerly called Hermitage… thus the name). It can be light and fresh to fuller-bodied and intense, and it’s known for deep blue, black and purple fruit flavors with a smoky, herbal note that can sometimes taste like cured meat.

 

Leth 2021 Roter Veltliner • Wagram, Austria • Reg $22.99 | Mixed Case $18.39

100% Roter Veltliner. Lots of juicy apple on the nose. A little bit floral and a little bit spicy. Then... pineapple, peach, apples with some white flowers, then *pow* a lot of white pepper on the finish. Great (almost effervescent) acidity. A little more body than their Grüner Veltliner, but similar flavors.

ROTER VELTLINER …Okay, so Grüner Veltliner = Green Veltliner in German. Roter Veltliner = Red Veltliner, but.... it's not red! It's just a litter richer version of the Grüner Veltliner. So fun!

 

Bartholomew 2020 Tannat • Rattlesnake Hills, Washington • Reg $36.99 | Mixed Case $29.59

100% Tannat. Red and black plums + the black raspberries that we gobble up on the way home from the farmers market. Palate is plummy (dark plums), blackberries. Great acidity. Fresh long finish. 4 months in French barrique tames the tannins in this highly tannic grape and adds in a coffee note. Really fun wine, especially for the price.

TANNAT, originally a blending grape from Bordeaux, is grown almost exclusively today in Uruguay. This dry, unctuous grape is a teeth-stainer with flavors of boysenberry, cassis & dark plums.

 

Bodegas Naia 2022 Verdejo • Rueda, Spain • Reg $19.99 | Mixed Case $15.99

100% Verdejo. Slight pink grapefruit, soft citrus, apple. Complex. Sophisticated for Verdejo which is usually a grapefruit bomb. Easy drinking. Delicious.

VERDEJO, a white grape from northcentral Spain, is usually a nice, friendly, fresh, grapefruity wine sort of similar to a NZ Sauvignon Blanc.

 

Glatzer 2019 Zweigelt Cuvée • Carnuntum, Austria • Reg $21.99 | Mixed Case $17.59

100% Zweigelt blend from vineyards around Carnuntum (in Austria's Burgenland). Soft cherries, plums, forest floor on the nose. Palate kicks in with kirsch liqueur. Great acidity. Vibrant but elegant. Really good fruit. Great wine.

ZWEIGELT is an Austrian grape that’s medium-bodied, has pleasant red fruit flavors, and then a soft earthy note. Like Pinot Noir? Like Grenache? This grape could be your new best friend!
